Positives

Much of the above is a positive description of the Mini Cooper.  It handles extremely well and out performs many cars in its category.  The cooper looks stylish and has a timeless quality like the original.  The car is always in demand and holds its residual resale values very well.  Its small stature can be a positive or negative depending on your viewpoint, however because its small its very maneuverable and easy to park.  Being part of the mini Club, if you own a mini wether is like being part of a cult and you will attract attention from other mini drivers.

Negatives

There are a few cons with owning a mini, nothing is ever perfect.  The mini cooper is a small car, this means limited roon and a very small boot for most of the range.  The Cooper being sporty has a stiff suspension, this can result in interior noise and rattles.  Running costs can be a bit higher than other cars due to the cars higher performance and thirstier engine.  Some of the more brighter outlandish minis don’t hold their vakue as well.

Driving the Mini Cooper

Be in no doubt, the mini Coopers is a drivers car.  Superbly balanced with super sharp steering and handling more like a go kart.  You will struggle to find a better driving experience off the track and at this budget.  Its never going to be a family cruiser, the car has a stiffer ride to suite its sporty styling but far from uncomfortable.

 

Running Costs.

Don’t expect a Cooper to be ultra cheap to run, that not what the car was designed for.  Neither is it a really expensive car in comparison to other sportier models.  The insurance premiums are quite high depending on the model due to its desireability and superior performance.  Fuel costs obviously differ depending on petrol or diesel choice but the petrol models are quite thirsty for a smaller car.  Tax costs will also be lower on the ultra efficient Diesel.  Service costs are typical of most modern cars and spare parts are available from BMW and also aftermarket companies.  The Cooper also holds its value quite well so the car will keep more of its value than other comparable models.

Practicality

Unfortunately there is a price to pay for the cars boxed shape and rugged looks.  Boot space is really limited and head and leg room are quite cramped in comparison to other super minis.   It really depends on the Mini Cooper owners lifestyle in comparison to its practicality.  

Do I have to worry about reliability?
